US-based GPS device maker Garmin today said it is targeting to boost its share in the personal navigation devices (PND) market to 30% by December-end as it is expanding the product portfolio and operations in the country.
Garmin Nation Sales and Marketing Head Ali Rizvi said that “We have a 15 percent share in the PND market in the country at present. We are targeting to increase our share to 30 percent by the end of December.”
Garmin also launched two latest devices, nuvi 40LM and 50LM targeting the reasonable market segment.
Rizvi added that “The 40LM (with a 4.3 inch screen) and 50LM (with a 5 inch screen) are priced at Rs. 8,450 and Rs. 9,990, respectively, and come with free lifetime maps, “taking away the recurring cost and make the devices much more affordable in the long run.”
Gurgaon: Japanese two-wheeler maker Honda today introduced its second mass fragment motorcycle ‘Dream Yuga’ in India priced at Rs 44,642 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The company’s wholly-owned subsidiary Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) also announced to involve bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as a brand ambassador for the company.
HMSI’s President and CEO Keita Muramatsu said that “Honda retained the brand Dream as part of a global strategy that was first launched in 1949. This new bike is very economical with better mileage.”
Dream Yuga is powered by an 110cc engine, he added. The company, which sold 21.07 lakh motorcycles and scooters in India preceding fiscal, is aiming to sell 27.5 lakh units in 2012-13.
Guwahati: The Kamrup district administration let down a violation bid in the Lampi area bordering Meghalaya in the district on Sunday. The district administration takes apart a house constructed by some Meghalaya villagers and removed a sign board build by them on Assam land.
Kamrup (rural) DC, SK Roy said that “Intrusion on Assam land will not be allowed at any cost. The situation in Lampi is peaceful now and we don’t want to see the sensitive area turn violent again. On Sunday, we removed a sign board installed in the house constructed by some Meghalaya villagers inside Assam.”
He added that “I have talked to the DC of West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya to demolish the house where the sign board was illegally installed by some Meghalaya villagers. Such acts can turn the area tense once again.”
The Kamrup (rural) district administration went into take stock of the circumstances in Lampi after receiving information from their Meghalaya counterpart. Further security forces have been sent to Lampi area to control any new encroachment bid in the area.
In March this year, Assam-Meghalaya Border Protection Forum organized a 500-hour road blockade against alleged violation by Meghalaya.
Mumbai: Filmmaker Karan Johar robustly denies making a nasty comment about Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif. He is completely upset with the media report.
He said that “Absolutely crazy media report suggesting i have said something about katrina!!! I HAVE NOT!!! It’s totally baseless and a lie!!! Katrina is not only a dear friend but also a supremely talented and hard working megastar!!! And all this reportage is ridiculous!!!”
It is rumoured that Karan laughs the way Katrina poses in magazines saying that she posed about similar way in every magazine.
Karan said that “Whatever be the magazine or background, Katrina`s look is the same.”
But at present, the filmmaker denies making any such comment about the diva adding that Katrina is a very talented and diligent actress.
Before resigning as chief executive of Yahoo Inc., Scott Thompson unveiled to the company’s board of directors and some colleagues that he has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, according to the reports.
The decision to quit from Yahoo was in part influenced by Thompson’s cancer diagnosis, the reports said.
The sources said that diagnosis had happened in recent days, while the board was examined why the executive’s academic record had mistakenly included a computer science degree. The mistake in Mr. Thompson’s resume appeared in a Yahoo regulatory filing and on Yahoo’s and other corporate websites.
On Sunday, Yahoo said that Thompson was resigning as chief executive and would be succeeded by Ross Levinsohn, a senior Yahoo executive who becomes provisional CEO.
Yahoo also announced a deal to end a proxy fight with Third Point LLC, which is a huge shareholder of the Sunnyvale, Calif., Internet Company.
Dhubri: A wholesale trader was shot dead by two attackers at Chowkbazaar in Dhubri district, police reports said.
The attackers stormed into the wholesale grocery shop of 62-year old Jhumurmal Jain and opened fire at his neck and chest. He died on the spot.
The local people coped to catch one attacker recognized as Mohd Islam and handed him over to the police, but the other one managed to run away. The police recovered a pistol from the attacker.
In the meantime, the ALL Assam Bhojpuri Parishad has called Dhubri bandh, whereas another business association has called an indefinite strike in the district from yesterday demanding instant arrest of the other killer. AIUDF, the main opposition party in the state assembly, has complete support to the bandh.

Itanagar: The decades-old boundary dispute between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam would be resolved politely soon with the one-man boundary commission constituted by SC working out modalities for the same, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said.
Chidambaram said during a press conference that “The one-man committee headed by Justice Tarun Chaterjee is looking after the issue and he is scheduled to convene a meeting with the chief ministers of both the states on June.”
He said that Centre preceding year sanctioned an amount of 154 crore to Arunachal Pradesh for development of areas along the inter-state boundary.
“This year an amount of Rs 92 crore was sanctioned for the same,” said Chidambaram.
Melbourne: National award winning actress Vidya Balan has finally emerge about her relationship with UTV head Siddharth Roy Kapoor but said she is in no rush to get married to him.
Vidya told that “I don’t have any plans yet… and there is no engagement ring yet. It’s a while away and I am in no hurry. But it’s on my mind and there is a plan at some point. There is someone in my life.”
When asked whether she is dating, Vidya said that “I will admit that I am dating him but not beyond that.” She has been lately appointed as a Bollywood Ambassador of Victoria, was to endorse the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne commencing from June 11.
Vidya admitted that she was a bit fearful about how her parents would react to her portrayal of South siren Silk Smitha in the film.
“I was finally relieved after my father came during the interval and said that he could only see Silk rather than Vidya. There is no bigger compliment for me than that,” said Vidya.
