Brahma blamed the state government of not taking proper measures to reconcile the border issue. Brahma said that road communication, key to economic development, has not improved in the area at all.

Brahma also condemns the state and central government for not making available basic facilities to the people, adding the state government should bring in further development schemes to the area.

A group of people leads by Vivek Das, a local CPI (ML) leader from Borgang in Assam’s Sonitpur district held a bike-rally at Tarasso village on Thursday. They conceded red flags and shouted anti-Arunachal and derogative slogans hurting tribal sentiments.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki arranged an emergency meeting on Thursday, which was attended by the chief secretary, home commissioner, DGP and IGP, a source informed.

Tuki directed the state police to instantly organize additional security forces at Tarasso to recover the confidence of the fear-stricken villagers and maintain law and order.

Tuki also wrote to Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi convey displeasure on the repeated acts of breach of status quo on the part of the people from the neighbouring state. He called for instant intervention of Gogoi to take legal action against the intruders for creating tension along the inter-state boundary.

Tuki added that if strict action was not taken against the intruders soon, the condition may snowball into a major disagreement that will not promise well for both the states, the source added.

The 27 years old Australian player Luke Pomersbach allegedly behave badly with the woman, a US citizen of Indian origin, at the Maurya Sheraton Hotel last night and has been arrested, police said.

CPI (M) state secretary and ex-MLA Uddhab Barman on Thursday accused the Tarun Gogoi government of distressing people in the pretext of preparing photo electoral rolls and distributing ration cards.

Barman said that “The brunt of soaring prices of essential commodities, anomalies in public distribution system, rampant corruption, poverty and unemployment in rural areas, demand for adequate rehabilitation package for flood and erosion victims and deteriorating law and order situation are the key reasons we decided to launch a campaign.”

He also criticized the BJP, saying that the saffron party is trying to provide communal colours to the influx issue.

The CPI-M state secretary added that “The state government continues to show apathy to flood and erosion victims at Mandia in Barpeta district even as their protest continues after 22 days.”

Her body was brings to Mumbai from Kathmandu through cargo with her mother’s body on Wednesday. The funeral took place at Santa Cruz (West) cremation. Her mother was also cremated at the same time.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has alleged that the popular actor ill-treated and misbehaved with security personnel and its officials after a match against the Mumbai Indians.

The cricket association has stuck a police complaint and says it will also complain to the BCCI. MCA treasurer Ravi Savant said that “He (Khan) misbehaved and abused the MCA security personnel as well as MCA officials, including our president Vilasrao Deshmukh, after the IPL match (between KKR and Mumbai Indians). We have decided to ban him for life from entering the stadium in future.”

He also said that “SRK was dead drunk, our security tried to stop him but he pushed him and abused in such filthy language that I cannot use it here. Our  officials tried to pacify him but he started abusing them, he abused MCA, BCCI and used the f word and said whatever you want to do you do it….”

Minister for Power, Commerce and Industries Pradyut Bordoloi said that “In 2005 we started the first phase of reforms which saw restructuring of the then power behemoth Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB). Now we are poised to undertake the second phase of the reforms where focus would on increasing generation and improving transmission and distribution.”

According to state government facts, Assam has a peak demand of 720 MW-780 MW. Of this only 130 MW-150 MW of power is being produces from its own power stations, whereas another about 400 MW is being imported from central sector generating stations in the North Eastern region and enduring from other sources like private producers and power trading agencies.

There is a deficit of concerning 100-150 MW during peak demand. Bordoloi said that the state is likely to get another 360 MW in months to come.

He said that “The first phase of Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project is expected to be completed by early 2013 and this will generate 240 MW. Besides, we will receive 120 MW from the Palatana project in Tripura where we have a stake.”

Bordoloi also said that Assam is also trying to secure electricity from confined power plants operated by different institutions and the Digboi Oil Refinery has already decided to supply six MW.

The minister added that work on 4 large projects, comprising a 100 MW one at Namrup, and 10 small projects are started.
