At a function organized in Kahilapara by the Sanskritik Samaj, a life-size statue of Netaji was reveals by the chairman of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and MLA of East Guwahati Robin Bordoloi.
The treasurer of Sanskritik Samaj, Zainalabedin Choudhury, said that “A colourful and cultural rally was taken out from Binovanagar LP School playground. The rally, which passed through the main thoroughfares of the city, converged in front into of the playground again. About 3,000 people from various walks of life participated in the rally. The rallyists raised slogans of Netaji. Moreover, there was a tableau which depicted different things related to our freedom movement and contributions of Netaji.”
He added that “At 12.45 pm, which is also the birth time of Netaji, the Tricolour was hoisted by renowned Gandhian Natwar Thakkar. This was followed by an open session which was presided over by the president of the samaj, Badal Dey.”
“The session dwelt at length about the life and contributions of the great leader. In the evening, a cultural programme we have arranged a cultural programme,” he said.
The secretary of the committee, Sankar Chakraborty, said that “Our programme started at 5 am with prabhat pheri. This was followed by a blood donation camp where 30 people donated blood. An art competition on Netaji was also held where children from different schools participated. Moreover, an open session was also organized which was flagged off by public health engineering minister Gautam Roy.”
