Guwahati: On Tuesday, a special CBI team arrested the main culprit behind previous year’s communal riots in Assam’s Bodo areas, which left over 100 people dead and leads to displacement of close to 5 lakh people, police said.
Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team steals Moinul Haque from Kokrajhar district for his involvement in killing four Bodo youth on July 19 last year, setting off the fight between the Bodos and the Bengali-speaking Muslim settlers.
The Assam government had handed over the enquiry of the violence in BTAD to the CBI last year and a special team had been achieved the investigations from Bongaigaon.
The CBI officials said that the arrest of Haque was made by a special team, which came from Delhi to examine the case.
Moreover Haque, CBI sleuths had also arrested another 8 people last Friday for their alleged role in the violence.
