Guwahati: The Assam Police has sounded an alert across the state before Republic Day celebrations following inputs that ULFA hardliners are planning to accomplish subversive activities in small towns this time.
Intelligence agencies have also asked security forces to reinforce surveillance in the Assam-Arunchal Pradesh and Assam-Meghalaya border areas where the rebels are trying to intrude. Sources in the home department have recently received a message from their counterparts in Myanmar that top ULFA hardliner leader Bijoy Chinese alias Bijoy Das has changed his location lately.
An intelligence official said that “We have reports that Bijoy Chinese has come down to the valley from the hills in Myanmar and has been given the responsibility to conduct insurgent activities ahead of Republic Day celebrations. With all security attention on the capital city, the rebels may target small towns.”
Assam Police have already instructs all district police headquarters and SDPOs to maintain sharp vigil. According to security sources, one group headed by Raktajit Hazarika and Rupantar Kakati, hands over with the responsibility of treating in acts of violence in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts, has been allegedly seen moving around in East Siang district of Arunchal Pradesh.
