Assam govt admitted presence of over 20,000 illegal migrants.

assam govtGuwahati: On Thursday, the Assam government admitted the presence of more than 20,000 illegal migrants who were identified, but could not be deported due to legal norms.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the process of deportation was on and a bill would be placed to control it. Most of the migrants would be deported to their country, the minister said.

On the rescheduling of prominence of the Koch Raj Bonghsi schedule tribe community, the minister said that an all party delegation would be sent to New Delhi soon to address their long-standing demand for ST status.

The minister also announced that an extradition treaty would be soon drafted to make sure that illegal migrants did not enter the state.
