Kaziranga National ParkGuwahati: The ‘World Heritage’ site Kaziranga National Park and the Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park in Assam will re-open on Thursday, whereas Manas National Park will re-open on November 4.

After its annual closing due to severe flooding during the monsoons, the gates of Kaziranga National Park in upper Assam’s Golaghat district will now be open to visitors tomorrow, park authorities said.

While the flood water has not totally receded, the authorities said, roads and bridges that were damaged in the flood have been repaired thus tourists can take elephant rides to see the one horned rhino with a variety of other animals and birds.

The visitors would also be able to continue open jeep safari rides on designated routes inside the park which are clear of flood waters now, they said.

The authorities said that last year, the most important tourist hub in Assam had recorded a 1.25 lakh inflow of both foreign and domestic visitors.

  1. It is really a great news that Kaziranga is open for tourist. Kaziranga is a world heritage site and also shelter for many endangered species like Rhino. This year flood is really a severe one takes 600 life including 17 Rhinos which is really very disheartening. Kaziranga faces these type of flood every year and takes life of animals, we don’t have control over these situation but we can improve the situation by taking preventive action to help the animals to reach safer place.
