Assam Govt plans to finance film industry.

assam govtGuwahati: The Assam government plans to finance at least 4 to 5 films a year to help the ailing industry in the state, Assam cultural affairs Minister Pranati Phukan said today.

She was speaking at a programme where CM Tarun Gogoi released acclaimed Assamese film-maker Jahnu Barua’s latest movie ‘Baandhon’ (Waves of Silence).

Gogoi, who took the initiative in arranging finance for the film by the Assam State Film Corporation (ASFFDCL), said that “The government has to step in to revive the film industry which is passing through a difficult phase.”

He hoped the film would turn the wheels of fortune for the state film industry which was passing through an acute funds crisis.

Barua expected the movie would get the kind of support from the filmgoers the Assamese film industry was looking forward to.

ASFFDCL chairperson and actress Bobbeeta Sharma said that the ASFFDCL has embark on the project for production of films after a gap of almost 11 years with its first film being ‘Nishidha Nadi’ produced in 2000.
