Assam CM released reprint of first Assamese printed book.

Tarun gogoiGuwahati: Assam CM Tarun Gogoi on Saturday released the reprint of the first Assamese printed book ‘Dharmapustak’ in Guwahati.

The book was first published at Srirampur near Kolkata in 1813 by Dr William Carey and Atmaram Sarma, and a digitized image copy was obtains by Padmashree Surya Hazarika from the British Library, London.

During a function of Guwahati Literary Festival and Book Fair-2012 in Guwahati, the Assam CM released the reprint of the extraordinary book containing 864 pages.

Gogoi said that “We are thankful to the British Library for doing this, our favour and it is a valuable moment of Assamese literary history.”

The 12-day-long Literary Festival and Book Fair organised by Asom Prakashan Parishad happening from Oct 2.
