The Centre is to send a seven-member team to the violence affected districts of Assam on Tuesday. The team will be in the region for 3-days to help the state government in its rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Almost 76 people were killed and more than five lakh rendered homeless in the week-long violence between Bodo tribal groups and Muslims in the lower regions of Assam, comprising Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri last month.
In the meantime, the riots in the state had a current effect in some of the southern states of India, mainly Karnataka, which saw mass exodus by about 30,000 of its Northeast population after SMSes warning of disciplinary attacks were spread.
While the panic has mainly subsided amongst the Northeast population in the states, comprising Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, fear still grips most of them.
