Assam racial violence is very unfortunate: PM.

Manmohan singhNew Delhi: Racial violence in Assam, which asserted over 70 lives, is ‘very unfortunate’, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Wednesday.

In his Independence Day speech, PM said that the fight between Bodo tribals and Bengali-speaking Muslims had disturbed lives of a large number of people last month.

Conveying sympathy with the victims and their families, Manmohan Singh said that authorities were doing all possible to provide relief to everyone.

He said that “Our government will make every effort to understand the reasons behind the violence and work hard with the state governments to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in any part of the country.”

About 400 villages, in the districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri and Baksa have been affected in the aggression which first broke out on July 20.
