Guwahati: The 12-hour Assam bandh called today by All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU), an organisation of Muslims, has further worsen the law and order situation in the state, with unrest and instability spreading further.
One person was killed and quite a lot of others injured during the protest. Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Sidharat Singh told that “A person was killed by miscreants, while around 28 others were injured. Curfew has been imposed in the town.”
Curfew has also been forced in Tezpur and Naogaon. Several houses were torched and there was large-scale flammable during the bandh. At several places, media persons were attacked by bandh supporters.
The Assam Police has registered a case against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal. The account allegedly restricted inflammatory messages. Senior SP, CID, Debraj Upadhay said that “we have written to Facebook to provide details of the account.”
Indefinite curfew was clamped in Tezpur town after a youth was significantly injured by bandh supporters when he tried to stop them from effectively closing down shops near Mahabhairab Temple in the heart of the town.
In Sonitpur district, bandh supporters set blazing vehicles of circle officer, Tezpur. Several bandh supporters were injured in Jogighopa in Bongaigaon. In Upper Assam’s Sibsagar, police had to lathi-charge to bring order.
