India’s flag-holder at the 2012 Olympics wrestler Sushil Kumar has been forced to train alone in India for 4-day as he only has a single-entry visa for Belarus where he was supposed to fly with his teammates.
With no other option, Kumar determined to stay back in Delhi and train under the watchful eye of Coach Yashvir Singh. His teammates left for Belarus on Sunday.
Wrestling Federation of India secretary Raj Singh told that the initial plan was to send all five wrestlers to Belarus. “But Sushil was not granted a multiple-entry visa by the Belarus embassy. So, he will first go to London and then join his teammates in Belarus for training. He will hopefully join them after the opening ceremony,” he said.
The Indian wrestling team is scheduled to land in London on August 5 after training with Belarusian wrestlers. Kumar will miss training with his teammates for a week.
Though, his coach is not concerned as the wrestler has returned from a rigorous training session in the US.
Singh said that “Sushil has not missed a single training session here too. He is going through a rigorous schedule. There should be no worry about his preparation. He will join his teammates in Belarus after performing his national duty.”
