BMTC roll out Volvo longer buses.

BMTC Volvo busesBangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is rolling out Volvo longer buses. The new Volvo is 14.5 metre long, 2.5 mts longer than the Volvo buses running in city, at present.

The new buses will have 51 seating capacity and can carry 110 passengers at a time. Volvo has not so far priced the vehicle, until trial run is completed.

The trial run will be made on the route ā€˜500 Dā€™ from Hebbal to Banashankari, beside the Outer Ring road(ORR), one of the longest routes in Bangalore, passing by the tech-hubs of the city lying off ORR, Marathahalli, KR Puram, Bellandur and Central Silk Board junction.

KR Sreenivasa, MD, BMTC said that “The trial would be for a fortnight or may be a month. The company will take that bus after the trial and then we will have to settle on whether running such long Volvos is feasible, what all routes can we operate such buses, how many buses should we procure and cost-analysis.ā€
