Guwahati: Assam’s bid to break the Guinness World Record for the major guitar ensemble fell short by a significant margin with only 5406 guitarists showing up at the Sarusajai sports complex yesterday.
The record is presently held by Poland, where a total of 6346 guitarists played to a common tune.
But, yesterday’s ensemble which played to the tune of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s ‘Bristirnno Parore’ was able to break the Limca Book of Record, a national record which so far was held by Meghalaya.
The certificate was handed over to the organizing committee by the representatives of Limca Book of Record.
Guitarists, who turned up from across the country, played the tune of the maestroa’s evergreen number for about 7 minutes as the whole Sarusajai sports complex rose to an exceptional occasion. The organizers now plan another try to break the record sometime next year.
