Guwahati: Four Maoist guerrillas were killed in a shootout with security forces in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Wednesday. A police constable was injured in the happening, whereas three rebels managed to run away, the police reports said.
The first major encounter between the rebels and security forces in the state happened at Deopani Borgora village, the reports said.
PP Singh, district SP said that “When our men headed towards a house where they were hiding, the Maoists opened fire. In the retaliatory firing, four ultras were killed.”
Three AK-47 rifles, three Chinese hand grenades, three magazines and 250 rounds of live ammunitions were recovered from the killed Maoists. The police also recovered five mobile sets and important documents.
CM Tarun Gogoi had lately announced some developmental schemes in border areas to stop the Maoists from making inroads in reluctant areas.
