Madhur Bhandarkar gets SC relief in claim of rape case.

madhur bhandarkarNew Delhi: Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar on Monday wins some relief in the Supreme Court, which stayed criminal proceedings against him on a claim of rape levelled by an actress.

A Bench of Justices H L Dattu and C K Prasad issued notices and sought responds from the Maharashtra government and actress Preeti Jain on a appeal by Bhandarkar challenging the Bombay High Court order directing him to face trial.

Jain had stuck a complaint with the Versova police in July 2004 claimed that Bhandarkar had raped her 16 times between 1999 and 2004 under the excuse of casting her in his films.

Last year, Mumbai trial court had given the green signal to start criminal proceedings against the filmmaker, a National Award winner.

In September 2011, the police had filed a report stating that the case against Bhandarkar was false. Although, the trial court rejects the report, saying there was prima facie case against Bhandarkar.
