ACC launched mission to make public places tobacco free.

Assam Chamber of CommerceGuwahati: The Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) has urged the people of the state to help in its lately launched mission to make public places tobacco free.

The ACC has launched a latest mission with the assist of the Voluntary Health Association of Assam (VHAA), an NGO working to ban smoking in public places in the state.

Rupam Goswami, president of ACC said that “Today, we held a workshop with VHAA to chalk out plans to spread awareness on health hazards caused by smoking in public places. We have already carried out awareness campaigns in Jorhat and Golaghat districts of upper Assam, which were successful. Now, the two organisations will carry out awareness campaigns in other parts of the state as there is rampant violation of prohibitory orders on smoking.”

Jayanta Deka, Publicity secretary of ACC said they would use leaflets and posters to start awareness campaigns all over the state.

Prior, smoking was banned in open public places; afterwards, parks and stadiums with demarcated boundaries were also brought under the prohibitory rules.

The central executive committee of ACC has also determined to move CM Tarun Gogoi to stop potent collection of money from traders in the name of donation for celebrating festivals and other reasons.
