Guwahati: Members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) took out torchlight parade at the district headquarters of the State in protest against the new statement of CM Tarun Gogoi issued in support of the post-March 25, 1971 migrants.
AASU members condemned the reported statement of CM as anti-Assam and pro-Bangladeshi one. They insist an end to the pro-Bangladeshi vote bank politics.
It has made it clear that the Government is bound to push away the post-1971 migrants from Assam. In the meantime, the Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha has requested resignation of Tarun Gogoi for his pro-Bangladeshi stand.
On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed the anxiety that CM Tarun Gogoi’s pro-migrant stand will concern the process of NRC update and support invasion.
“Gogoi’s stand will only encourage those migrants who leave their country for the sole reason of seeking economic gains,” said spokesperson of the party Siddhartha Bhattacharya.
