Silchar: Sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) are carried out a raid at Assam University, to investigate the scams about networking, smartclass room and biotech hub. They have been looking into the complaints in connection with misuse of funds, poor quality of work and indecent implementation of the multi-crore projects etc.
The team of CBI officials have been carried out the raid in the central university, which is established in 1994. On Thursday, they searched different departments of the varsity, classrooms, went through numbers of files, interrogated officials and faculty members and inspected the networking, smart classroom projects.
The varsity officials have been co-operating with the officers by enduring in their offices till late in the evening, the sources said.
The sources said there are complaints of large-scale misdeed in some of the projects carry out by Assam University. In 2008 the Rs 1.6 crore networking project occur in Assam University with the works carried out by HCL.
Before achievement of the project some materials, comprising a processor switch, worth Rs 3 lakh were stolen from the AU students’ hostel.
The sources said that the AU vice-chancellor ordered an internal investigate into the incident as the authorities filed an FIR with the police. The CBI has been examining the role of various persons inside and outside the varsity. Ranjan Biswas, SP Shillong CBI, said that the officers will file a report about their findings next week.
