In a statement, the KMSS said that the Sikkim government has ordered scrapping of the 96-MW Lethang and 99-MW Ting Ting hydel projects proposed on the Rethong Chu River.
The Sikkim government has also ordered a new study of the under construction 97-MW Tashiding project on the river. These resolutions of the Sikkim government came in the wake of the accepted protests against these projects.
The people of Sikkim, and mainly some Buddhist organisations, objected to the above projects claiming that their religious and cultural links with the Rethong Chu River would be affected by the projects. The Minority Commission of that State has also extensive support to the protesting organisations.
The KMSS has said that taking the prompt from the Sikkim government, the Assam government should also select scrapping the projects.
The KMSS said that assam government should overcome upon the Arunachal Pradesh government on the matter of the religious and cultural link of the State’s people with the holy Parasuram Kunda, which is facing the threat of being damaged by the Demwe Lower Project on the Lohit River.
