Assam girl rescued from New Delhi railway station.

New Delhi railway stationGuwahati:  A minor girl, who was kidnapped six months ago from Assam, has been rescued from New Delhi railway station and her abductor has been arrested, police said on Friday.

The 22-year-old Mintu Saikia, a resident of village Moinajuli in Assam’s Sonitpur district, was arrested on Thursday from New Delhi railway station when he was going to board a train with the girl, they said.

Saikia, who met the girl during All Assam Dance Competition at Jorhat in Assam, had kidnapped her on Aug 5 preceding year. Local police alleged it to be a case of elopement in a love affair.

A senior police official said that “The girl did not make any contact with her parents or relatives even 3-4 months after the incident. During investigation, it came to light that the parents doubted a boy named Mintu Saikia, who was also missing from the date of incident.”

ACP Devesh Chandra Srivastva said that “After five months, on January 17, the girl’s mother received a call from a man who identified himself as Saikia and also made the victim to talk to her mother.”

“During conversation, it was revealed that the victim was confined in a room and not allowed to talk to anyone or go anywhere outside. During second conversation, the accused demanded Rs. one lakh from the victim’s mother,” he said.

Following an appeal from Assam Police, the Delhi Police starts technical surveillance and raids were carried out to nab the accused. Saikia later ted to his crime, he said.
