Union Cabinet meet today for final touch of Lokpal Bill.

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi: The Union Cabinet is likely to meet today on Lokpal Bill once a cabinet note being set on the government’s draft of what it hopes will be a please-all Bill is ready.

According to the various sources, Cabinet will be convened at very short notice. The government has planned the creation of a separate investigation wing for Lokpal. This will be totally separate from the investigation wing of the CBI.

Decision will also be assumed what situation or exceptions are necessary before bringing these institutions under the purview of the bill.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is said to have given the final touches to the draft. There were frantic efforts through the weekend at the highest level to eliminate all outstanding obstacles so that the Cabinet can give a escort and after that the Bill can be presented in Parliament and passed by Thursday next, when the Winter Session ends and with it anti-corruption supporter Anna Hzare’s deadline on the Lokpal Bill.

Top ministers and officials are trying hard to emerge with an acceptable draft of the lokpal bill. After the cabinet meeting on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was secretive with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, home minister P Chidambaram, telecom minister Kapil Sibal, law minister Salman Khurshid and minister of state for personnel V Narayanasamy and top officials to provide final shape to the bill.
