Guwahati: While numerous groups including the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) have strengthen their campaigning against construction of a dam on the Subansiri on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, an unidentified caller has threatened to blow up the ongoing 2000-MW hydel project.
Verifying this, Om Prakash, general manager of the Lower Subansiri Hydro-Electric Project, on Friday said that he received an unidentified call comprising an SMS on Dec 25, with the caller saying the ongoing project would be blown up if the project work was not stopped.
Om Prakash told to the reporters that “We received this call on December 25, and we immediately filed an FIR at the Gogamukh police station in Dhemaji district. We have also provided the police with the details of the call so that the caller can be identified.”
The NHPC has also written to the chief secretaries of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh enlighten concerning the telephonic threat and asking both governments to take suitable steps so that no damage was done to the imminent project.
