Mumbai: On Thursday, Anna Hazare’s planned 3-day fast from Dec 27 with NGO Jagruk Nagrik Manch filing a summons petition in the Bombay High Court in quest of direction to the state government to assign a place for the protest.
Team Anna has taken the Maharashtra government to court for accusing the activists’ commercial rates, 3.77 lakhs a day to rent the MMRDA Ground.
The activists said that even if donations made the leasing affordable, they will not opt for this ‘five-star fast.’
The three-day fast and sit-in protest, which begins on Dec 27, at Azad Maidan, the designated spot for protests and demonstrations which is made accessible at no cost.
But, Mumbai Police anticipates an average turnout of 30,000 people for Anna. Thus, it wants Team Anna to get particular permission for a section of Azad Maidan, which is controlled by the state sports department, to be made available as well.
The police have also pointed out that specified Azad Maidan’s immediacy to important offices and buildings like the municipal corporation; it’s significant that roads be keep free of traffic jams and huge groups of people.
