NFIW put pressure on Union Govt to remove AFSPA from Manipur.

NFIWImphal: The National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has vowed to persistently put pressure on the Union government to remove the Draconian Law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958, from the state of Manipur.

General Secretary of NFIW, Annie Raja said that the NFIW has taken up mobilization campaigns in different parts of the country in support of Sharmila Chanu, who has been fasting for the last 11 years, demanding removal of AFSPA.

Regrettably, there are a number of people, who are naive of the agitation carried out by Sharmila Chanu.

Aruna Roy, President of National federation for Indian Women (NFIW), said the Government of India should reconsider its stand on AFSPA and review the wishes of the people who are demanding abolish of the Act.

“We should render utmost support to Sharmila and civil societies, particularly the women NGOs should join the struggle in an all out effort to fight against AFSPA”, she added.
