Imphal: Security guards positioned at the residences of ministers and MLAs in Manipur have been attentive in view of a militant faction frightening to boycott the imminent assembly elections in the state in February next, official sources said.
Alleged militants have been frightening the workers and politicians in the past several weeks by throwing grenades at their places, sources said.
The sources said that alleged militants had thrown a powerful grenade at the private residence of the deputy chairman of the state yesterday.
The grenade did not burst, and later it was defused by police bomb experts last evening. Bijoy and family members were not injured as they were staying at government quarters at the time of the happening.
However, no individual or group has claimed responsibility. Official sources said that all defensive measures would be taken to carry out free and fair polls in the state.
