New Delhi: A grouping of senior ministers today cleared out the draft of the modification in the Lokpal bill, which law minister Salman Khurshid said will be introduced in Parliament during the recent session.
After a meeting of ministers chaired by Home Minister P Chidamabaram, Khurshid told to the reporters that “we have completed the cleaning up of the draft. We had instructions to clean up the draft and we have cleaned up the draft.”
He also said that the real drafting and finishing of the drafting work is being complete by officials and as soon as it is ready, the bill goes to Cabinet once PM gives the signal.
The draft modified would go to the Cabinet for approval before which PM Manmohan Singh and FM Pranab Mukherjee would have a look at it. And there may not be any need to extend it, he felt.
Despite Chidambaram, Khurshid and telecom minister Kapil Sibal were present in the meeting to confirm the modification of the bill. The three ministers, who are lawyers, were also component of the Joint Drafting Committee, which conferred the Lokpal bill with Team Anna members.
