Guwahati: The continual protest blockade programme in Assam initiate by numerous organizations for the last eight days has strictly affected the construction works of the 2000-megawatt mega dam project over the Subansiri River at Gerukamukh, the reports said.
The organizations have launched the blockade to discontinue transportation of machinery and other construction materials by the carrying out agency, National Hydro-electrical Power Corporation (NHPC), to the project site.
According to the official reports, works on the dam site have been totally stopped since Tuesday following non-availability of materials.
For now, the Lakhimpur district authorities have going ahead talks with the anti- dam protesting groups to end the blockade. The project is scheduled to be concluded by December next year.
The protestors have lifts worries about the safety and large-scale downstream impact in Assam’s Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts from the mega project.
