Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement that “Engagement of our Call of Duty audience continues to rise around the world.”
“Call of Duty as an entertainment franchise has made an indelible mark on popular culture and its broad and continued success is further validation that audiences increasingly value interactive experiences over passive experiences,” he added.
Modern Warfare 3 went on sale on November 8 and it had a record-breaking first day, selling over 6.5 million units for a total of $400 million in sales. Activision said that it broke the record of 5.6 million units and $360 million in sales previous year by Black Ops.
Not just has it beat Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3 has also made $1 billion faster than Avatar, James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster, which achieved the same milestone in 17 days.
