Assam Govt serious about tackling extortion demands by different militants.

Assam GovtGuwahati:  Assam government is stern about maintaining law and order and undertaking rebellion, comprising extortion demands from militant outfits, the sources said.

Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, on behalf of CM Tarun Gogoi said that the government was alert of the extortion demands made by different militant outfits, including pro-talk factions.

In South Assam’s Karimganj district, the minister said that several fragment extremist groups of Riang community and the United Democratic Liberation Army of Barak Valley (UBLABV) were found to have treated in activities like killing and kidnapping in distant areas bordering Mizoram and Tripura.

In order to hold and monitor rebel activities, the government was planning to raise a Border Out Post (BOP) at Balitipla bordering Tripura very soon, he said.

Aside from the police, the CRPF personnel were carring out regular patrolling duty in the extremist-hit areas and holding meetings with village headmen and Village Defence Parties (VDP), he said.
