Silchar: A railway official on Tuesday ward off a possible tragedy when he found 10 crude bombs along with blasting devices from a railway bridge on the Lumding-Badarpur hill section in southern Assam, an official said.
“The 10 powerful bombs along with blasting devices were found at a railway bridge between Mahur and Phiding stations on Lumding-Badarpur hill section under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR),” NFR spokesman Nilanjan Deb told reporters.
“The bombs were found by railway track man KR Das during a normal patrolling duty. Immediately, several trains scheduled to play through this section were stopped, averting possible disasters,” he added.
Deb also said that Army soldiers, railway protection force personnel and railway officials have reached the site, 400 kms south of Assam’s main city Guwahati.
The bombs were disconnected and defused by the security personnel. The security forces have to start a search operation to steal the culprits.
After a systematic search for a few hours, the railway track was declared fit for train movement and normal train services continued in the afternoon, the spokesman said.
