P Chidambaram to visit Manipur on 94th day of economic blockade.

P Chidambaram New Delhi: Home Minister P Chidambaram is expected to visit Manipur on Wednesday on the 94th day of the economic blockade.

Home Minister will hold a security review meeting at the Imphal secretariat with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and senior officials, the reports said.

The blockade in the region has led to 2 National Highways remaining blocked. For almost 100 days now, even the basic essentials like oxygen cylinders are hard to get.

The SHDDC had launched the economic blockade starting August 1 on two National Highways, Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati (NH 39) and Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar (NH53) to press the demand for conversion of Kuki tribal majority Sadar Hills area into a full-fledged district.

However, tribal Nagas inhabiting the area are opposed to creation of a Sadar Hills district.  The Nagas have since August 1 also launched a counter-blockade on the two highways opposing the demand by the Kuki people for a separate district. The Naga counter-blockade is being lead by the United Naga Council (UNC).
