Guwahati: Niranjan Hojai, the self-styled commander-in-chief of a militant outfit DHD (J) currently out on provisional interim bail for a period of four months, was picked up by the City Police along with two of his accomplice for supposedly threatening and assaulting an employee of the Directorate of Agriculture located in Khanapara area.
The incident occurred when Hojai and two of his associates along with the armed personal security officers penetrated the office premises of the Directorate of Agriculture and allegedly threatened an employee of the department over some appointment issue.
Hojai, a major accused of the two NIA cases relating to diversion of public funds towards militant activities and help waging of war against the Union Government, was granted interim bail on August 12 by the Gauhati High Court.
The Court had obligatory a number of conditions relating to his movement and activities before granting bail to Hojai and DHD (J) chairman Jewel Garlosa in connection with cases. The conditional interim bail granted to Hojai, and Garlosa will expire on December 12.
Senior superintendant of Police (City) AJ Baruah told to the reporter that Hojai came to the Agriculture office to find out about the status of one Nomesh Nunisa, who was appointed as Gram Sewak lately, though his salary was not being released.
“Hojai has alleged that the employee had asked for a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from Nomesh Nunisa, who also hails from NC Hills. The employee of the Agriculture department had also alleged that he was assaulted by one of the persons accompanying Hojai. We are questioning Hojai and two of his accomplices and an inquiry has been initiated” Baruah stated.
Later in the evening, the Agriculture Minister also arrived at the Agriculture office and held a meeting with the officials.
