Imphal: BJP President Nitin Gadkari has urged Prime Minister Mamohan Singh to lead an all political party team to Manipur to study the existing situation in the State arising out of the long-lasting economic blockade.
Manipur is facing its nastiest supply crisis due to the economic blockade on the National Highways 39 (Dimapur-Kohima-Imphal) and 53 (Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar), the lifelines of the State since July 31 by Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) demanding creation of a Sadar Hills district. The United Naga Council (UNC), protesting the demand has called a counter blockade on the highways.
BJP said in a memorandum on Friday that “The PM should lead an all party delegation to Manipur and provide the people a much-needed healing touch”.
The BJP delegation during the meeting at PM’s office on Friday also urged for obligation of President’s Rule in Manipur by dismissing the ruling Secular Progressive Front Ministry in the State till a new election is conducted.
Meanwhile, State’s ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) alliance partner CPI staged rallies in different parts of the State in protest against the price hike. The party also submitted memorandas to the particular Deputy Commissioners of the State.
BJP, CPI and Manipur People’s Party have also urged both the Central and State Governments to take a specific resolution on the demand for creation of the Sadar Hills district to end the blockade.
