Greater Noida: Lewis Hamilton received a major obstacle two days before the inaugural Indian Grand Prix race as the McLaren driver was docked 3 grid places for ignoring a caution flag in 1st practice session at Buddh International Circuit (BIC).
Despite clocking the fastest time, 1 minute, 26.836 seconds, Hamilton’s rocky year on the race track continues with this latest penalty.
Hamilton pipped the Red Bulls to clock the fastest time at the end of 1st practice session on Friday morning. But the session ended in a disaster for the British driver as he ignored double waved yellow flags at the end of practice.
Thus, the FIA has slapped a 3-place penalty on Hamilton which means that though he finishes fastest in qualifying on Saturday, he would at best start the race in 4th place on Sunday.
The penalty is just the latest in a long list of misbehaviour that Hamilton has been penalised for this season. Most recent penalty he recieved for risky overtaking in an incident, which took place with Ferrari’s Felipe Massa at the Singapore Grand Prix.
