Delhi HC pronounce verdict on Shivani Bhatnagar murder case today.

Shivani Bhatnagar caseNew Delhi: The Delhi High Court will articulate its verdict on the appeal of the convicts in the Indian Express reporter Shivani Bhatnagar murder case on Wednesday.

Earlier IPS officer and Haryana top cop RK Sharma and 3 others have plea against their assurance and life sentence in the case. Shivani was cruelly murdered at her east Delhi apartment in 1999.

The court had also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on RK Sharma, whereas the other 3 have been fined Rs 10,000 each in 2008.

Shivani was at her East Delhi apartment with her infant son at the time of the murder on January 23, 1999. Her body bore 10 stab wounds and strangulation marks.

The prosecution’s demand for death penalty to the 4 convicts however was turned down by the court, which noted that the crime in question did not surprise the society’s conscience.

The trial court judge in fact went on to say that Sharma could not be termed as a danger to society and depicted his distinguished services to the country as consider factor, saying: “Except for the crime in question, he is an asset to this nation.”
