Guwahati: The central sector power generating stations (CSGS) and the Power Grid Corporation have served an arrear bill of Rs 190 crore on the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) for supply of power. The CSGS comprise power stations of the NEEPCO and the NHPC. The period of the bill is between April 2009 and June 2011, ASEB sources said.
This has cause severe concern inside the already burdened power company of the State. The company has informed the State Government of this development with a plea to bail it out of the swamp.
The APDCL is spending Rs 50 to 60 lakh per day for purchasing additional power from the spot market. It is now acquired a monthly loss of about Rs 20 crore. But the company is not willing to burden its consumers with this additional amount. It is hence seeking assist from the State Government, the sources said.
In case the State Government fails to expand any support to the power company, the latter will have to recover the amount of Rs 190 crore from its consumers by applying the fuel and power purchase price adjustment mechanism in the next review scheduled for November.
