Bongaigaon: The National Democratic Front of Boroland (Progressive) has sent a memorandum to PM Manmohan Singh, through the Deputy Commissioners of Chirang and Bongaigaon districts yesterday after staging a sit-in demonstration at Kajalgaon stadium field.
In the memorandum, it was stated that “Boro and other indigenous tribal peoples living in Assam are the sons of the soil who are socio-economically and socio-politically exploited, dominated, suppressed and marginalised.
They have been in this land for the last 700 years and had kings who ruled in different kingdoms and territories at different times… instead of giving due recognition to their history and their sacrifices in the freedom movement, they were forcibly pushed into the fold of Assamese identity even if they have vast difference in ethnicity, language and culture and are now living as the second class citizens in their own inherited land.”
Moreover, the organisation also pressed their demand to speed up the dialogue with Centre, hold political level dialogue for early solution of Boroland and to concede the demand of Boroland State for the Boro and other indigenous tribal people.
Hundreds of demonstrators serenely observed their sit-in demonstration for 3-hours in front of the offices of the district deputy commissioners and sub divisional officers in Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Baksa and Chirang, besides Dhubri, Dhemaji and other districts.
