At least 15 people were injured on Saturday evening when a low-intensity blast ripped through the reception counter of Jai Hospital in Agra, situated at a distance of barely 2.5 km away from the Taj Mahal. Three of the injured are said to be in severe a condition.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that crude Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used in the explosion. Forensic experts have recovered pieces of wires and batteries from the blast site, verifying the use of IED.
Special Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police, Brij Lal announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for providing pertinent clues. He said that no timer was used in the blast.
The UP government has sent an initial report of the blast to the Union Home Ministry, saying it was too early to wrap up if the incident was a terror attack.
Security around the tourist city has been enhanced. The entire Uttar Pradesh has been put on high alert.
