Guwahati: Assam Government has determined to host an international tourism carnival in April next year. This was announced by Minister of Tourism Chandan Brahma after inducting the Assam Tourism Brand Summit organised here by the Directorate of Tourism on the occasion of World Tourism Day on Tuesday.
Brahma said that the government was eager to explore 2 vantage points that Assam had over other regions, its exclusive culture and heritage and the rich bio-diversity for putting the State on the international tourism circuit.
“Tourism is the only non-polluting sector and growth of this sector will ensure employment generation, flow of foreign currency and above all secure social peace and prosperity,” said Brahma pressure that in a conflict-hit State like Assam, tourism was a strong tool to usher in lasting peace.
Apart from the international tourism carnival scheduled from April 8 to 10 in the capital city, the department is planning another extravaganza in the form of adventure tourism in October 2012. Both these events are likely to boost the tourism potential of the State and make sure more footfalls of international backpackers.
