Ralegan Siddhi: Social activist Anna Hazare on Friday took tough exception to the I-T department’s notice to his key adviser Arvind Kejriwal and asked the Government not ‘to play mischief’ with a man of integrity and character.
Hazare said that “The government is playing khilwad (mischief) with Arvind and it is not good. I got a phone call from him this afternoon. They are questioning him about something after a gap of four years.”
He added that “I have seen Arvind from close quarters. He is doing a selfless service for society. He could have made money if he wanted to, but he is not like that…If such things are happening, the civil society will be compelled again to take a different path.”
The I-T Chief Commissioner last month issued a notice to Kejriwal, who resigned from the Indian Revenue Service, to clear the dues totalling Rs 9.27 lakh.
Kejriwal, an RTI activist who played a key in talks between the Government and Team Anna over the Lokpal, has denied the charge, the sources said.
Kejriwal said in Delhi “I have not violated any study leave bond norm as a government employee.”
