Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is determined to oppose the barges that are loaded with the turbines of the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP). The barges are on a forward move to Gerukamukh site of the LSHEP.
The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also has warned that it would be relevant all its forces to oppose the onward move of the turbine-laden barges towards the LSHEP project site. It also assured in a statement that for the consequences of the resistance resist the State Government will only be responsible.
In the interim, voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has reiterated its appeal to the CM to resolve the discord on the issue through agreeable discussion with the organisations, which have been spearheading the agitations on the issue.
The members of the KMSS resorted to National Highway and railway blockade at different parts of the State. Its members also staged demonstration at Jogighopa to aggravate the likely bid to carry the turbines by road from Jogighopa, said a KMSS press release.
The KMSS said in its statement that at some places its activists are blocking the National Highways and railways. At Jamuguri Rail Station, the police opened fire on the protestors and one Moon Medhi continued bullet injuries in his left leg. Some others unrelenting injuries as a result of the police actions to dissolve the protestors, said the KMSS and it condemned the police actions as barbaric.
