Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) yesterday accused Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of misleading the people with wrong statements on the land exchange pact India signed with Bangladesh lately.
In a statement, the student body said that the Chief Minister has now been taking recourse to wrong statements on the land swap deal. He had told the media on September 8 that Assam had given up an area of 357.5 acres of land to Bangladesh and got 1240 acres of land in exchange. But now making a perfect u-turn, the Chief Minister is asserting that not a single inch of Assam land has been given to Bangladesh.
It is now evident from the official records that the Chief Minister has given up Assam land to Bangladesh to fulfill only his own interest at the cost of the greater interest of the State and overlook the opinion of its people.
According to the reports, Central leaders have offered the post of Vice President to the Chief Minister for his role in the land swap deal.
AASU said that the Chief Minister even failed to consider the issue with his party colleagues, Cabinet colleagues and any of the opposition parties before handing over Assam land to Bangladesh.
Chief Minister had to hold a meeting with the members of his legislature party, Cabinet colleagues yesterday in the face of the admired protest against the deal, it said and demanded a persuasive reply from Chief Minister and the Prime Minister as to who authorised them to hand over Assam land to Bangladesh.
