DV Sadananda Gowda, who is a Yeddurappa nominee, is one among famous candidates for the Chief Minister post, reports said. The BJP national general secretary-Ananth Kumar, a long time rival of Yeddurappa has been pressing for the sociable Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj-Jagadish Shettar as the new chief minister of Karnataka.
According to the reports, apart from Sadananda Gowda and Jagadish Shettar, state BJP president KS Eshwarappa and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister-Suresh Kumar have also said to have entered the race in the last minute.
The party’s state unit president K.S. Eshwarappa told to the reporters, “The party’s legislators are holding discussions with their leaders and cadres for a consensus candidate. Efforts are on to resolve the differences between the factions for a unanimous choice. We hope all the legislators and leaders will cooperate.”
At the same time, Yeddyurappa’s followers, including Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya, Excise Minister Renukacharya and Housing Minister V. Somanna met at the former’s residence and determined to lash in more legislators to back Gowda, who signified the Chickmaglur-Udupi parliamentary constituency, concerning 400 km from here.
In the 225-member state legislative assembly, the ruling BJP has 120 members, include speaker, whereas the Congress has 71, the JD-S 26, 6 are Independents, one nominated member and one seat is vacant.
The BJP will require 113 for a straightforward majority to triumph a confidence motion when it forms its 2nd government in the state.
