Today’s Google celebrates the 189th birthday of scientist Gregor Mendel as a new doodle. Mendel’s early work focused on the genetic form of peas, he discovered that definite traits where passed on in peas when cross pollinated.
He went onto work with honeybees and formed a species so forceful that they had to be destroyed. At the time his work was rather dismissed, the great man pushed his scientific work to one side when he was given an eminent position of Abbot.
He also determined to focus on the administrative and other managerial skills requisite of his latest position rather than pursuing his scientific work.
Creative brilliance of Mendel’s work was almost ignored for 34 years. Only after the remarkable rediscovery of Mendel’s work in 1900, was he duly recognized as the founder of genetics.
