The young and dashing Bhutanese king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck announced his engagement to a commoner, sending his loving subjects to country’s parliament that he would be getting married ‘later this year’.
The 31-year-old Wangchuck smiled durning his speech in parliament as he named his bride, a 21-year-old student at London’s Regents College.
Prince Charming Wangchuck said that “Her name is Jetsun Pema. While she is young, she is warm and kind in heart and character. I have decided that the wedding shall be later this year.”
Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley and the members of parliament expressed their happiness on the announcement of the royal wedding in parliament hall. They offered good wishes to the imminent queen of Bhutan.
Wangchuck is the 5th emperor since the kingdom was established in 1907 and he is born to the 3rd wife and is the eldest son. He was crowned in 2006, after his father renounced in favour of his son.
Pema had been allied the king on official trips recently. No day was announced for the marriage.
